September 16:

ICC rejected PCB’s demand to remove Andy Pycroft. In response, PCB threatened not to take the field if Pycroft officiates the match against UAE. Pakistan canceled their pre-match press conference but held their scheduled practice session at ICC Academy. PCB also sent a second letter to ICC, repeating their demand to remove Pycroft.

September 17:

Some media reports claimed that Andy Pycroft was removed for the match against UAE. However, the Pakistan team wanted him removed from the entire tournament at any cost.

Just about three hours before the match, things changed quickly. An emergency ICC meeting was held in Dubai. After this, the Pakistan team — which had already packed its luggage in the team bus to leave the hotel — was suddenly asked to wait. Soon, Pakistani media claimed that Pakistan would pull out of the Asia Cup and the team would return home. The PCB held a meeting, and after discussions, they decided to play the match. The team then left the hotel for the stadium. Now, the match will start at 9 PM, with the toss scheduled at 8:30 PM.

PCB vs Pycroft Controversy

After the India-Pakistan match, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) strongly objected to match referee Christopher Pycroft’s actions. PCB claimed that during the match on Sunday, Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistani players at the toss and after the match, and they held Pycroft responsible.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha protested by skipping the post-match award ceremony, although coach Mike Hesson attended the press conference. PCB also alleged that before the toss, Pycroft asked Agha not to shake hands — which is against the rules of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

In its complaint to ICC General Manager Wasim Khan, PCB stated that Pycroft’s actions went against the spirit of cricket and violated the rules. The board demanded that he be removed from the remaining Asia Cup matches. Media reports also suggested that if no action was taken, Pakistan might consider withdrawing from the tournament, although PCB or its chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not officially confirm this.
