Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Wednesday that he has switched his email platform from Gmail to Zoho Mail. He shared this information on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he also revealed his new email ID.

Another major step has been taken to promote Made-in-India technology in the country. On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Home Minister Amit Shah officially announced that he has switched his email platform from Gmail to Zoho Mail. He shared this information on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he also revealed his new email ID. Shah stated that from now on, all future government and official emails should be sent to this new ID.

This step not only sends a strong message towards digital self-reliance but also shows that technology developed in India is now capable of competing at the international level. India’s tech company, Zoho Corporation, has created Zoho Mail, which is considered a native alternative to foreign platforms like Gmail and Microsoft Outlook.

Zoho’s founder, Sridhar Vembu, also expressed his happiness over Amit Shah’s decision and said that it is a proud moment for India’s mission of technological self-reliance. Zoho’s chat app Arattai has also been in the news recently, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged the use of Made-in-India apps.

How to Switch from Gmail to Zoho Mail

1. Go to Zoho Mail’s website and sign up by choosing a free or paid plan. Set up your mobile number and recovery email.

2. In Gmail → Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP, turn “Enable IMAP” on. This allows Zoho to access your Gmail data for migration.

3. In Zoho Mail → Settings → Import/Export or Migration Wizard, import your emails, folders, and contacts from Gmail. For large mailboxes, this process may take some time — so be patient.

4. In Gmail Settings, turn on email forwarding to your new Zoho address so that new incoming emails are also delivered there. Don’t forget to verify the address.

5. Update your new Zoho email on all your important accounts like banks, services, social media, and subscriptions. Also, send a short note to your contacts sharing your new ID.

6. Take a backup using Google Takeout. Enable 2-FA (two-factor authentication) in Zoho and set up your email signature/auto-responder.

7. Note: Keep auto-reply active on your old Gmail and use both mailboxes together for a few weeks to make sure you don’t miss any important emails.
